Tour Guide at Florida Southern College
Class of 2020
Hometown: Dallas, TX
Major: Elementary Education
I love Florida Southern. When I visited, it immediately felt like home to me — everyone was so welcoming. Because of the smaller feel and the many opportunities to get involved on campus, I felt that I would be able to make a name for myself here. And I was right! I love that my professors know me by name, and that they encourage me as well as provide me with great opportunities and ways to get experience in my field.
My favorite memory is going to Winter Wonderland, a fun FSC traditional event. I absolutely love Christmas, so seeing the big tree in the green and going sledding and eating Christmas cookies with my friends is my absolute favorite thing about Florida Southern.
My favorite class has been "Instructional Methods III" — this is a course where I learned the best way to teach elementary school science, which is also my major. We get to experience engaged learning during every single class, whether that meant growing our own plants, raising worms, creating science-themed bulletin boards, or creating our own science lesson plans and teaching them to the class. I learned a lot, and I am truly more prepared to teach my future students.
One of my favorite things to do is grab breakfast from Born and Bread Bakery downtown on Saturday mornings, and then go set up my hammock on Lake Hollingsworth to eat it with my friends!
